The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis
Recommended Age: 3 and up
The Chronicles of Narnia is a beloved fantasy kids series for a reason. It's allegory is breathtaking, the world-building is second perhaps only to Tolkien, it's characters are relatable and flawed and its message is universal. When I saw this beautiful edition illustrated by Tudor Humphries, I knew I had to have it. I plan on using it to show my little nephews and niece the wonderful world I hope they'll come to love as much as the rest of my family does. There are a lot of big words in this that you may have to explain to your kids but, as you know, I'm a proponent of exposing kids to big vocabulary often. If you also love Narnia, start your kids young with this beautiful edition!

The witch is killed but this is not shown. It just says she died.
There are all sorts of fantasy creatures from fauns to unicorn, to ghouls, to centaurs.
Aslan sacrifices himself for Edmond but it is barely a sentence as a description. I've included the image here so you can judge if it's too scary for your little ones.
