How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
If you are expecting a rideable black dragon that acts like a cat and Vikings becoming partners with dragons, you will be disappointed. Cressida Cowell's books are not at all like the critically acclaimed (and family loved, including ours) movie series that inspired three tv series and a new live-action movie. But that doesn't mean it's not a fantastic book. There's a reason it became a movie, after all.
We listened to the audiobook narrated by David Tennat, which was fantastic!
Summary:
To become a man, young vikings must steal a dragon from their nest, without waking the hundreds of adult dragons sleeping nearby. If they fail, they will be removed from the tribe. Permanently. Thankfully, Hiccup does not fail. But his new dragon is smaller than expected with an enormous attitude. Between trying to train his new stubborn dragon and being bullied by Snotlout and the other young vikings, Hiccup has his hands full. It's no surprise, really, when he fails the training and is banished from the island.
But when three large and dangerous sea-dragons wash onto the shores of Burk, Hiccup and Toothless may be the only hope the Vikings have of survival. Hiccup and Toothless will have to learn to work together to save their island.
